AmpLive Is Alive and Well!!

Okay so many of you have probably heard some of AmpLive's Radiohead remixes a few months ago. You may not know he was trying to release an album of these remixes. Well long story short, he forgot to clear it with Radiohead and the label, there was some cease and desists issued, and we all thought it was dead in the water. Nope. Rainydayz Remixes is out now and it's completely free for download. I was pretty fond of the earlier remixes of Weird Fishes and Nude, but when I looked at the tracklisting for this 8 song album and saw Video Tapez and Del The Funky Homosapien paired together, I just about lost my mind. With good cause too. That track is the BEE'S KNEES!!!! Find out for yourself.

Friday (I'm A Remix)

We've reached the end of the week.......and I really don't have much to say. Maybe that says it all. I'm guessing this feeling is because of the mass amount of new music I've taken in this week. There's no room left in my tiny brain for thoughts about life and such. Oh well. At least I have music.

Friday (I'm A Remix)

Once again the end is here...of the week that is. The pain behind my left eye is slowly fading. In turn the headache that has been brewing all week has peaked...and maybe...just maybe...will go away. Enough about me though. Let's talk about you the readers/listeners/lovers/haters. How are you? It's friggin' cold where I am, but it looks like it's colder in many other regions. Green Bay? COLD! Massachusetts? COLD! Brazil? Not cold...but you thought I was gonna say cold...didn't ya? Anyway I've got something that will warm the coldest and overheat the hottest. Remixes.

Retreadin 2007 Part 5

We all know Radiohead is great. If you look them up in the dictionary it says 'great band.' So this past summer when we were all anticipating the release of their new album in '08, we were all expecting it to be pretty good. Then they went and did what great artists have always done since the beginning of modern art. They did what they wanted to do. They wanted the fans to have the music first. They gave us a present and let us decide what to give in return. All of a sudden the relationship between band and fan became closer. Of course it wouldn't have mattered if the music wasn't good. It was. In fact it was great. There was passion and focus flowing through each song from start to finish. Waves of rhythm would pull you from one song to the next. Then they would bottom out and let the lush vocals of Yorke do the rest. In the end, Radiohead did indeed produce one of the best albums of the year. It's a fact.

Friday (I'm A Remix)

Another Friday is upon us and you're probably saying, "So what? Fridays come and go. What's so special about this one, sucka?" First of all, don't call me sucka. Second this is the last Friday before XMAS. Most of us are scrounging to get last minute gifts or laughing away the final hours of work. This Friday post goes out to the people who are busting their butts this weekend working a service or retail job. These kind folks basically get no rest this time of year, and deserve all of our thanks. Thank you! Please don't snap just yet. There's only a few days left. In the meantime, I offer you some toasty remixes.

Radiohead likely to tour US in May/June 08

Atease reports that Radiohead will likely be kicking off their next tour in May with the US as the first leg.

Ed said that it’s still ‘up in the air’ and that plans might change, but Radiohead will tour in May, June/July, kicking off for a few weeks in America. Ed: “We probably go out in May.”
Great news, boys. Now the speculation on venues can begin. Return to Bonnaroo?? Or Coachella?? Exclusive acoustic gig in my back yard?? Only time will tell.

Far lesser artists claim Radiohead "arrogant"

I'm requesting an opening tirade for this post.

I couldn't help but write about this ridiculousness. As I first saw on ateaseweb, several artists are now mouthing off about how they dislike what Radiohead did with their unconventional release of In Rainbows. Lily Allen apparantly feels that it sends a bad message to smaller bands about the value of music, and that it's "arrogant." Liam Gallaher of Oasis stated that "over his dead body" would an Oasis album be released for free.

What. The. Fuck. This all feels like a huge case of playa-hatin. I'm sure they'd all be happy if Radiohead were more like Metallica, prosecuting people for, .....wait for it...... LISTENING TO THEIR MUSIC. What a GD travesty. I'm all for smaller bands wanting to make a comfortable living off their music. In fact, I'm probably the first one to try and support artists. In case you didn't know, artists make the most money for themselves on touring and merchandise. Record companies make the most from traditional CD sales. Why do you think its the record companies who are usually going after college students for pirating music? People who really like music, or a particular band should go see them live. Buy a T-shirt. Buy a poster. Whatever. But don't fool yourself and think that picking up a CD at Tower Records really supports that band.

Personally, I would think it would be somewhat liberating for artists to see their peers break free of the industry structure that makes it so hard for bands to survive. Inventive marketing and sales of albums directly to consumers is the future of music. Traditional sales just encourages pirating, so no one's paying for it anyway. OMG people, get with it.

I know it's a lot easier for a well established band like Radiohead to take a risk like this, but what they've done is going to benefit artists for years to come.

And I don't know about you, but there is no way I'd even listen to an Oasis CD, unless it was free. Or cheaper than that. Come on Oasis, stop being bitter because you're not that good.

more radiohead news

In addition to the webcast tommorow, XL recordings announced they will be releasing the CD/ vinyl version of In Rainbows on Dec. 31st. XL will be releasing the album to everyone not in the U.S. while the finalizing of the deal to release it here still goes on. Happy New Year Radiohead fans!!! This is not the same as the discbox which was offered at the same time as the download. It is unclear if the CD XL is releasing will contain both CDs offered with the discbox though.

EDIT : i just read on radiohead.com the webcast will start any minute. unless my timezone factoring is off.
Edit Edit: they just announced that they are having technical difficulties. i guess its wait and see on the webcast.

Radiohead Webcast?

Word on the street is that Radiohead is planning a live webcast on Friday November 9th from 9pm-12am UK Time(which is 4 pm to 7 pm if you are on the east coast of the US like me). I don't know if this is a fact I'll let you know if I hear anything more.

More Radiohead innovation

Apparently releasing an album fully online and allowing people to pay what they want isn't enough. EMI/Parlophone will be releasing a 7 disc box set with all their full length albums on December 10th, but will also offer the option to have all 7 plus digital artwork and the like available on a special USB stick in the shape of the Radiohead bear. That's pretty slick.

Available for pre-order here.

Jonny Greenwood on In Rainbows

Rolling Stone has a little quick interview with Jonny about In Rainbows.

Enjoy.

In Rainbows - What I Think

Like many people today, I downloaded Radiohead's new album In Rainbows. In my half asleep daze I was able to listen to it on my hour long Wednesday commute to work. Here's my take:
1. 15 Step
Starts off good. Yorke's voice is beautiful going along with a broken up beat. Then...I thought this was a regular Radiohead song...that baseline!!! This is a great Radiohead song!!! Was I ever in doubt? No.
2. Bodysnatchers
Okay okay okay. WTF!! This song rocks. They drummed up that OK Computer intensity for this one. This one goes to 11. I'm saving this one for a dire friday at 5 O'clock.
3. Nude
What should always come after a hard hitting song. Beauty. This song is beautiful. Radiohead is clearly operating on another level now.
4. Weird Fishes/Arpeggi
Am I wrong or is this album super rhythmic? A great beat with smoothly picked dual guitars and Yorke's slightly delayed vocals. That's just the beginning. Everything builds then drops into 'Weird Fishes'. Then sonic waves of guitar, bass, vocals and...sonic waves just pour over you.
5. ALL I NEED
This song is ridiculous. THIS IS THE FRIGGIN' SONG! I COULD TRY AND DESCRIBE IT. I CAN'T. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER TO BOB MY HEAD, SING ALONG, SMILE, CRY, OR EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE. There is no doubt that DJs will be hungry to use this in all types of mixes. Folks THIS is why that vinyl will be out in December.
6. Faust Arp
After a song like All I Need. I needed a break. Something to calm me. Faust Arp is that song. Strings. Acoustic Guitar. Thom Yorke.
7. Reckoner
Oooooooh yeah! I like that beat.
8. House of Cards
People seem to be perplexed by this song. As am I. It reminds me of U2 a bit. I like it but I think this one has to grow on me. I will say that it still fits with the superb flow of this album.
9. Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Did I say before that Radiohead is on another level. Their energy as a band really shows on this song.
10. Videotape
This is how an album is supposed to end. An amazing arrangement of sparse rhythms building and joining together...not in a climatic way...but to the end.
That's my take. They did it. They friggin' did it. My question was always 'Radiohead is a group of just amazing musicians constantly producing stunning music. How could they possibly get any better?' Ladies and gentlemen, they just did. If you do not have this album, go get it. Now.

A few words on In Rainbows

It's brilliant. Get it now. Enjoy what ensues!!!

IT'S TIME TO ROCK

Okay. It's Friday! It's been a long week. Doesn't everyone deserve to rock out? I mean come on. This week I've walked in the door of my place of employment and found things in shambles. There sitting on the desk, a note reading "fix it". And though there were hours of agonizing, eyeball burning repairs, I actually made it to the end of the week without cursing anyone out. So now is the time I get to rock out. Quit jivin' me turkey! Ya got ta sass it! Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout. It's time to look foolish on the car ride home. I'll be that person playing my steering wheel like a snare drum and slapping my knee like a high hat. Here's a couple that just might let your inner rocker out...

Radiohead - My Iron Lung

The Ettes - No More Surprises

Figurines - Ambush

Wolf Parade - It's A Curse
