Rich Aucoin - Sync Or Swim

So you're a music fan, right? You're probably saying to me right now, "Look Pasta Primavera, I've heard it all. There's nothing you can post about that I haven't already heard or seen somewhere before." Well most of the time that may be true. Perhaps not today. Rich Aucoin has done what I believe no one has ever thought of doing before. He wrote a performed the album Personal Publication that syncs up to the holiday favorite 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' by Dr. Seuss. Aucoin grew up watching the famous Wizard of Oz sync with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and always thought it was a great way to take in an album. When watching it, I guess I can see where he's coming from. It's pop art. He's taking a branded mass media icon, stripping away some of it's identity, and adding in his own identity to create a new work of art. The idea would be pointless if the music wasn't up to par. It is. Clearly drawing inspiration from bands like Pink Floyd, the Flaming Lips, and the Beach Boys, Rich Aucoin has crafted an album that has the ability to stand on its own without the movie. It has aspects of FL's Soft Bulletin in the fact that it has that theatrical or semi-rock opera feel. Here's how Aucoin describes it in his own words:

"The record is a concept record about the human progression to love: the first song (at war with the cynics) is about opening yourself up (the first step), then the second two tracks are about either taking or giving too much, the next track is about deceiving yourself or others, the next is about going into isolation to figure out what love is (a balance of giving and taking; the last track.. 10,342 Cuts for the Us)."

This Canadian definitely has my attention and should have yours too. Watch the sync here.
